Yorkshire stars aiming to make home advantage count as BTCC heads to Croft

The Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship - the UK’s premier motorsport series - returns to Croft Circuit next weekend (18/19 September) with a pair of Yorkshire stars aiming for success on home soil.

On what is set to be a spectacular weekend where thousands of fans are expected to flock to the North Yorkshire venue, leading lights from the county will be looking to draw on the support of the partisan crowd across both Saturday and Sunday.

Despite missing the start of the campaign, BTC Racing’s Senna Proctor has enjoyed a sensational run of results recently and he will be keen to continue that at Croft.

The Driffield driver claimed a maiden pole position at Oulton Park before going on to win the reverse grid contest that same weekend. A further three podiums have since been earned by the Honda driver - the most recent coming last time out at Thruxton.

Sitting tenth in the championship standings, the two-time race winner will have his sights set on a big points haul as he bid to elevate himself further up the standings.

Likewise, Adrian Flux with Power Maxed Racing’s Daniel Lloyd is also targeting strong results at his local circuit behind the wheel of his Vauxhall Astra. The 29-year-old has endured a rollercoaster season up to now but returning to the scene of his first-ever BTCC win back in 2018 will only fuel his motivation for glory even more.

“We came away with respectable results though (at Thruxton) and I feel really on the ball now with the car,” said Lloyd. “We’re just taking small steps forward each round.

“Croft is up next, so I’m feeling really positive. It’s my home circuit and where I took my first BTCC win. It’s going to be a big round for us.”

It won’t just be in the BTCC where fans will be able to cheer on the homegrown heroes, with a number of local drivers keen to take centre stage on the TOCA support package.

One of the biggest cheers will undoubtedly be for MINI CHALLENGE racer Max Coates. Born and raised just a few miles from the track, Coates is one of the star attractions when the BTCC visits every year and that will once again be no different.

Taking a stunning win when competing in the Renault UK Clio Cup a few years ago, the Graves Motorsport racer will be fully focused on chalking up a second win of the season.

Ethan Hammerton - who also competes in the MINI CHALLENGE - will be another driver to look out for in the tin top category.

In the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, all eyes will be on former two-time champion Daniel Cammish. Returning to the one-make series after a stint in the BTCC, the Leeds ace will be keen to tally his second win of the season as he aims to take the lead of the championship.

Josh Rattican and Carl Garnett - the latter based in York - are other drivers - that will be also hoping to draw on home support as he competes in the Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 Supercup.

Tickets to the BTCC’s only north-western event of the year are still available to purchase online, priced at just £15.00 for Saturday entry, £35.00 for Sunday or £43.00 for the full weekend.
