The enthusiastic local organisers of Darlington and District Motor Club descend on Croft Circuit this forthcoming weekend (May 18/19th) with the usual fayre of top-class action and packed grids but also with something a little different on offer.
This year's edition of their May Race Meeting features the usual variety of championships with the highlight being a five-hour endurance race for the Fun Cup on Saturday. Launched in 2002 from an original Belgian concept, the race will see 25 near identical 1800cc VW Beetle replicas and over 60 drivers vying for honours amidst pit stops and driver changes.
During the lunch break and prior to the start, race fans will be invited onto the grid to sample the unique atmosphere and see the cars and drivers close up before battle commences.
As you would expect at a D&DMC meeting, the Northern Saloon & Sports Car Championship features strongly with qualifying on Saturday and four races on Sunday. Long time supporters of D&DMC meetings, the MG Cockshoot Cup has races on Saturday & Sunday also. The Mazda MX5 series provides the one make element of the meeting whilst a first visit from the Super Lap Scotland Super Sprint Championship features some very powerful saloon cars from north of the border.
A packed schedule will see 10 races over the weekend with a full entry set to contest the various classes around the full international 2.127-mile circuit which has recently been totally resurfaced.
Practice gets underway at 9.30 on Saturday with the first race commencing at 11.30 before the Fun Cup gets underway at 13.00.
