750 Motor Club Action Set for Return to Croft Circuit
A wide variety of cars and championships will be in action when the budget-friendly 750 Motor Club returns to Croft Circuit with its action-packed racing programme next weekend (20/21 April).
A regular fixture at the North Yorkshire track, the Midlands-based club’s two-day event will see eight different series featuring a wide range of racing cars from GTs to hatchbacks take to the tarmac across 16 races.
It is the opening round of the season for all the championships so competitors will be looking to make an impressive start to the campaign as the Formula Vee 1300cc Volkswagen engine-powered single-seater competitors contest their first two rounds on Saturday.
Also featuring with one race on Saturday and two on Sunday will be the Locost series, which is set to showcase a packed grid of cars that are intended to be extremely affordable and built to the design set out in Ron Champion’s book 'Build Your Own Sports Car'.
The 5Club MX5 Cup cars will take to the start line with three races throughout the weekend. Only the original MK1 version of the distinct Mazda model is permitted with a standard 1.6 engine.
Not to be missed on both days will be the retro hatchbacks of the Classic Stock Hatch Championship going wheel-to-wheel. Featuring pre-1992 cars, the field will see the likes of Peugeot 205s, Vauxhall Novas and Ford Fiestas, all in standard specification showcasing great value-for-money racing.
There will be the chance to see more than 10 different models of Alfa Romeo in action as the Alfa Romeo Championship contenders face a double-header as they take to the track on both Saturday and Sunday. Four classes battle it out for the Italian-marque’s honours with categories for Modified, V6, Power Trophy and Twin Spark Cup.
The superbike-engined cars of the Sports 100 FT Cup will also show their pace on Saturday and Sunday whereas Saturday’s programme will host a mini-endurance race featuring four classes of production sports and saloon cars in the Anglesey International Roadsports Series over 45-minutes, including a compulsory pitstop and optional driver switch.
It will be the turn of the Club Enduro championship on Sunday when a grid of production sports and saloon cars take part in an epic 150-
minute showdown which includes two compulsory pitstops, for one or two driver teams.
The action starts at 9.30 on Saturday and 12.00 on Sunday. Adult admission costs £16.50 on both days in advance or £19.00 on the gate with accompanied children aged 15 and under admitted FREE on both days. There is also FREE car parking and FREE paddock access.
Meanwhile, drivers in the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) had a successful test day at Croft on Wednesday (10 April).
All the top teams were represented at the second test session of the new season as they prepared themselves for the forthcoming campaign that gets underway later this month at Donington Park (27/28 April).
Excelr8 Motorsport’s Ronan Pearson set the fastest lap of the day in his Hyundai as he took the top spot ahead of the WSR-run BMWs of Jake Hill and Colin Turkington. As it turned wet in the afternoon, NAPA Racing UK’s Ash Sutton set the pace in the tricky conditions.
Entry was free to the circuit with donations taken for the Great North Air Ambulance and Race Against Dementia whilst fans and teams alike took advantage of Croft’s brand-new Café, Hanger 50, which is now open and serving refreshments at all meetings at Croft Circuit in 2024.
