FAMOUS CROFT TUNNEL SEES LIGHT OF DAY AFTER 43 YEARS!

Visitors to Croft Circuit back in the 1960s and 1970s will remember the famous entrance tunnel which allowed vehicular access to the infield of the original 1.75-mile track.

After the circuit closed in 1981, the tunnel was consigned to the history books but now, over forty years later, it is to see the light of day again as improvements to the North East’s premier racetrack continues.

And whilst it won’t be open to traffic, contractors will be using it to route some ducting under the current circuit adjacent to the Gate 3 entrance, but after 43 years of darkness, one of the most famous parts of the historic track has been given a new lease of life!”
